The current custodians of Guiding Light.

Guiding Light was launched in 1936 by Berthon of Lymington for the Earl of Normanton.

Roy bought her in 1993 and in 2009 set off bound for New Zealand.  We met him in the Lesser Antilles in 2014.  I raced Antigua Classics aboard Guiding Light and fell in love with her.  I told Roy that I wanted first refusal when he eventually hung up his sea boots.

Sadly in 2018 Roy was lost at sea, in Rodney Bay, St Lucia, somewhere between the shore and his boat.  A very sad day that I still can’t believe really happened.

In August 2020, Roy’s family were given permission to sell Guiding Light, and his sisters Lynne and Janet offered her to us.  Both Gill and I had the same reaction, our hearts said yes and our heads said...no! run away fast!....our hearts won.

We have many plans for her, but first we must make her seaworthy again.  Two years in the baking Caribbean sun is not kind to an old wooden boat.

This blog will I hope detail that restoration and her new life with us.
